In 2018, AmeriVet Veterinary Partners, a young company with Canadian roots, chose San Antonio as its headquarters. Two years later, the Alamo City has been a fertile home for it — even in the midst of a pandemic.
AmeriVet, which collaborates with and operates veterinary hospitals across the country, nearly doubled its revenue last year, from $42 million in 2018 to more than $83.5 million in 2019.
That growth has made AmeriVet No. 1 in the 2020 Fast Track Awards among businesses with $10 million or more in revenue. And it’s reinforced the company’s commitment to its corporate home.
Since arriving in the Alamo City, AmeriVet has acquired nearly 60 veterinary practices and grown its staff to about 1,500 employees. In September, despite Covid-19, AmeriVet said it was expanding its San Antonio headquarters to meet increased demand for its expertise.
“Our ability to pivot the business models of our partner owners while navigating a turbulent business climate and global pandemic has strengthened our position as collaborative business development specialists,” AmeriVet CEO Thomas Thill said.
Multiple factors stoked AmeriVet’s initial interest in San Antonio. It was drawn to the city’s lower cost of living, which has made it easier for the company to attract outside talent from other, more expensive, markets.
And it liked the pace of the community, which some say is slower than in most major cities.
“There is something about San Antonio where the work-life balance seems to be much more in balance,” Thill said.
